What the END AGAIN??

OK people I just want to say "I Love You All and Have a Happy After Life."
Really?
Tomorrow is December 21st 20012 the end of the world according to the Mayan Calendar.I guess I don't have to be worried about my January house payment or my taxes or any bill for that matter.
Actually I think I might.  Of the few articles I have read so far it seems that it's not the end of the world but the end of a time span and a new time span begins.
I really don't know what to say at this point because I reading all kinds of things from New Agers theory and Astrological charts and God knows what else........

You know what I think I will have to continue this tomorrow..... I need a beer.  There is a lot of stuff on this subject that could make sense so just in case I think I will make love to my wife call the kids to say "I Love You" and research more later.
Peace Out Bro's

Facebook Crap or Not?

I was making my monthly visit to Facebook to check out who is talking sh@t about who and how many birthdays I had missed of people I truly don't know.

IMAGE REMOVED

Now, no one wants anyone hurt let alone killed by anything even a gun. So I decided to do a little research.

What I found was still disturbing but I had to make a comment on the figures a the post. Here is what I wrote:

"One person dying of a gunshot wound is not acceptable. However according to the CDC the figures in this post are misleading. Now, don't get me wrong it is still bad enough but in 2010 31672(10.26% of pop.) died of gunshot wounds.(by the way 436 were in Chicago).Of the 31672 death 30817(9.98) were violence related, meaning criminals. 19392 were suicides(6.28%), 606(0.20%) were unintentional. Now if we really need to pick on gun laws in the world per capita Columbia has a real problem with 51.77% death rate by guns. My gun hasn't killed anyone. They run away!!"

Just for the record I got the information from the following web address Center for Disease Control.

So  I went to Nation Master.Com a website that was created by Rapid Intelligence a company out Australia and found some amazing figures.

Post  Country  Nation Master
48      Japan        47
8         GB           14
34      Swiss        68
52      Canada      144
21      Sweden     58
42      Germany  269
10728 USA        9369

All these figures are bad enough but the point is even with gun control people are going to get killed either way. I still believe that with proper training guns are no more dangerous than an automobile, which was 34498 or 11.5% of the population in the US.

So when you see stats on the Internet remember one thing "The stats are projected for the best outcome to the person wanting to make a point" and hey yes my stats might lean more towards my point as well but if you don't check them out you'll never know.

Thanks
Brooks Ingersoll

The Fortune Cookie and it's Consequences

It seems that the "Fortune Cookie" is more than just a cookie. I say this because of a recent event that occurred.

Before I get to that I was curious about where the cookie came from so I Goggled it like any good blogger would and this is what I found..........

" Chinese or Japanese, Angelino or San Franciscan?
One history of the fortune cookie claims that David Jung, a Chinese immigrant living in Los Angeles and founder of the Hong Kong Noodle Company, invented the cookie in 1918. Concerned about the poor he saw wandering near his shop, he created the cookie and passed them out free on the streets. Each cookie contained a strip of paper with an inspirational Bible scripture on it, written for Jung by a Presbyterian minister.
Another history claims that the fortune cookie was invented in San Francisco by a Japanese immigrant named Makoto Hagiwara. Hagiwara was a gardener who designed the famous Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park. An anti-Japanese mayor fired him from his job around the turn of the century, but later a new mayor reinstated him. Grateful to those who had stood by him during his period of hardship, Hagiwara created a cookie in 1914 that included a thank you note inside. He passed them out at the Japanese Tea Garden, and began serving them there regularly. In 1915, they were displayed at the Panama-Pacific Exhibition, San Francisco's world fair."

Read more: The History of the Fortune Cookie — Infoplease.com http://www.infoplease.com/spot/fortunecookies.html#ixzz27xorJZ00  "

The reason I even bring up the fortune cookie is because a year ago my daughter and son in law finally had the opportunity to adopt a baby boy.  They had been trying to have kids for years and a couple of times even had chances to adopt but all failed until recently.

With out going into great detail the adoption agency found a young women who was putting her unborn up for adoption and my daughter and son in law were picked to be the new parents.

Now to the point of the story.

They met with the mother and offered to take her out to dinner and asked where would she like to go and she said she liked Asian food so they went to an Asian restaurant and with their food of couese they got fortune cookies.

My daughter opened her cookie and read the fortune. It said something along the lines of " What you have been wishing for will come true soon" and the next day the baby (his name is Lukas) was born.  The adoption went through with no problems and now he is one year old living with my daughter Stephenie and her husband Chad.

So say what you will about fortune cookies but be careful what you wish for when you crack it open.

That fortune in the cookie may just come true.

What's on my brain today?

I was thinking the other day ( which is a bad thing sometimes for me) about what to do this year about all the projects I have started and never finished or no desire to participate in.

I have Facebook I totally don't need anymore, too much advertising and games and just way too much b#@%$h%t, I have long ago got rid of MySpace so that's one thing I don't have to worry about. Google + is starting to get like Facebook.  I have Picasa for my pictures but now it's attached to Google+  photos and I don't know how to upload direct back to just Picasa anymore.

My real website is just no fun anymore because I am not in a band and no one has a need to go there. I do like having that site though but I can't really figure out what to do with anymore. Maybe I change it to a photo site or something. Hey how about porn? No that ain't happening. I could start a trucking scrap book but I really don't go far enough to make really interesting.

At least I have this place. Plain and simple to use, people check it out, it's free which is always good, so maybe out of all the project's have I'll just keep this one and maybe goodbye to all the rest, except http://www.utcrockandroll.net because one day I may learn how to be a webmaster put some real content on there.

So I guess for now I'll go take an aspirin, drink a beer and wait for the football games to start.

Sunday Football

I actually wrote this blog on my website http://www.utcrockandroll.net but thought that no one would see it there, I show real confidence in my website huh, so I pushed the old Ctrl-a then Ctrl-c and came over here and Ctrl-v and bing-bada-boom here it is.......

"Today is just like yesterday only the name has been changed to make you think it's different. I mean think about it. The sun comes up from the East at about the same time. The temp seems to be the same as that other day with the different name and the coffee still tastes the same. I did notice that the shows on TV are different. A good thing? Maybe that way we know that the name of the day has changed. Am i being silly? No,yes, but I am trying to think of something to write about. Oh I know how about....Football!

Yes, that is a good thing. I am not a big football fan but I do enjoy it. It is difficult at times though because I am a Redskins fan. OK! OK! Stop laughing!! Anyway, I see that the Saints ended up winning, good game really till the fourth quarter, Texans beat the Bengals which I couldn't care less about or should I? Today the Falcons will beat the Giants ( oh shit did I say that out loud) I mean The Falcons play the Giants and the game I want to see is Pittsburg and the Broncos.

Now like I said I am not a big football guy but I do enjoy the game, I don't know anything about stats or who needs to beat who to get in the play off, most because my team sucks, but at this point the quality of the game should be good. So do what I and sit back grab a cold beverage, cheese and crackers and fall asleep on the couch!"

A Day at the Races. Virginia Derby 2011

What a great day for horse racing. The weather could have not been any better. Well, it could have but what I'm saying is that at 86deg.it wasn't bad at all. There was a slight breeze, not quite enough to blow up dresses but good enough to keep you cool. At least where I was standing. I went to Colonial Downs in the hope to maybe make some money betting but I quickly found out that I was not good at that.I took a lot of pictures as usual and lost a little money but all in all I had a great day.
Lots of pretty hats and the girls weren't bad either. One of the main event's was put on by the Richmond Ski Club and they had what was called "Hoot on the hill" which was a whole lot of orange short shorts, filled out white t's and very friendly good looking girls from Hooter's. They came from veracious diffident stores around the area and just from what a saw most of them seemed to be having fun. I know I did but that's just me.
One thing that was really cool was that I met a man who's uncle I think was the first black admiral in the navy and they even name a ship after him. I thought I would add the link so everyone could check it out. That's about it, here is a link to the pictures I took
Virginia Derby 2011
and here is a copy of what I found through Wikipedia about Vice Admiral Samuel Gravely.

Vice Admiral Samuel L. Gravely

"Samuel Lee Gravely, Jr. (June 4, 1922 – October 22, 2004) was an African-American Navy pioneer — the first African American in the U.S. Navy to be commissioned an officer, the first to serve aboard a fighting ship as an officer, the first to command a Navy ship, the first fleet commander, and the first to become a flag officer, retiring as a Vice Admiral.
Samuel Gravely was born on June 4, 1922 in Richmond, Virginia. Gravely spent two years at Virginia Union University, where he was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. Following his time in college, he enlisted in the Naval Reserves on September 15, 1942 and was trained as a Fireman Apprentice.
In 1943, Gravely was told about the V-12 Navy College Training Program by a white officer. It was a new program designed to recruit and train enlisted seamen with partial or completed four-year college degrees to become officers. He sat for the application exam in April, scored very well, and was the first black candidate to be accepted. As part of this training, he attended theUniversity of California in Los Angeles, Pre-Midshipman School in New Jersey, and Midshipmen School at Columbia University.
In March 1944, the "Golden Thirteen" became the first African-American men to be commissioned from the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps. On December 14, 1944, Gravely successfully completed midshipman training as a commissioned officer, thereby becoming the first African-American to graduate from the V-12 program.
As a newly commissioned Ensign, his first assignment was to Camp Robert Smalls, a part of the Great Lakes Naval Training Station set aside for training African-American enlisted men, as the Assistant Battalion Commander for new recruits. Afterwards, he began his seagoing career aboard the USS PC-1264, a submarine chaser that was one of only two World War II ships with a largely African-American crew. He became the first black officer on the ship, as the rest of the command staff were white.
In April 1946, he was released from active duty, remaining in the Naval Reserve. He returned to his hometown of Richmond to complete his bachelor's degree in History.
As part of the Navy's response to President Harry S. Truman's Executive Order to desegregate the Armed Services, Gravely and other African-American officers were recalled to active duty in 1949. His initial assignment was as a Navy Recruiter, recruiting African Americans in the Washington, D.C. area, with the understanding that it was only for a year. The outbreak of the Korean War in 1950 forced the Navy to retain any experienced officers currently in service, regardless of race.
Gravely went from recruiting to building a Navy career that lasted 38 years and included many distinguished accomplishments.
He became the first African American to command a United States Navy warship (USS Theodore E. Chandler), the first African American to command an American warship under combat conditions (USS Taussig), the first African American to command a major naval warship (USS Jouett - subsequently CG-29), the first African-American admiral, the first African American to rise to the rank of Vice Admiral, and the first African American to command a U.S. Fleet (Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet). He was also among the first African Americans to attend the Naval War College in 1962.
Gravely was assigned tours of duty aboard PC-1264, USS Iowa, USS Toledo and USS Seminole. He served as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of the Theodore E. Chandler. Additionally, he was the Commanding Officer of the USS Falgout, Taussig, and Jouett. From 1971 to 1973 he served a dual role as the Director of Naval Communications (on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations) and commander of the Naval Telecommunications Command. His last tour of duty before his retirement in August 1980, was as Director of the Defense Communications Agency in Washington, overseeing the communications network linking Washington with American and allied bases worldwide.
Gravely was also highly decorated, with decorations including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal and Navy Commendation Medal.
After suffering a stroke, Gravely died at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, on October 22, 2004. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
Gravely had three adopted children and one biological child, and was survived by his wife, Alma, son William F. Best, son Robert Micheal, David Edward, and daughter Tracey Ernestine.[citation needed]"

Don't drink and drive.

You know it's funny. Well maybe not but I was just sitting around the house yesterday and made up a nice design for a sweet tattoo. At least put together some photo's and thought to myself I had a good idea for a new tat. I already have one on my right forearm so I needed to balance it out with one on my left.

After a couple of Buds Sandy, my wife, and I decide to go down to the Tattoo Parlor and get a price. Well low and behold they gave me a price handed me the forms to fill out took my money and the next thing you know I know I was sitting in the chair getting my arm shaved.

I guess what I am saying is " Don't drink and drive " to the Tattoo parlor unless you really want that tat which I did but I wasn't thinking it would happen that fast. It's OK though I really like the new tattoo had I think you well too.

Make it a great day because great things don't just happen.

The Big Day After.

There is a favorite song of mine called "Throw my Brain in a Hurricane" by John Prine. It's first line goes:

"Woke up this morning, put on my slippers, walked in the kitchen and died. And oh what a feeling, when my soul went through the ceiling, and on up into heaven I did ride."

That is sorta how I feel this morning. Only, of course, I didn't die and I am sure heaven isn't ready for me yet(I hope) but my head is spinning some and my stomach is burning a little and I am sure it wouldn't take much to knock me over.

I guess what I am trying to say is that last night at Wabi Sabi's in Petersburg Va. I had a really good time!! It was the first time there and I was very impressed. I actually felt like I was in downtown Richmond or something not in downtown Petersburg. There were lots of really nice people and although I didn't eat there I was hearing that the food is really good. It's a Sushi bar which is something I know very little about but Wabi Sabi is the place they say to try.

Well, now that I have written this little piece of nonsense I guess I can go eat breakfast and made my stomach feel better.

Peace and Love til next time.

"Beef, It's What's for Dinner"

Isn't that a nice phrase? "Beef, it's What's for Dinner" or "The Other White Meat". Anybody remember "The Quicker Picker Upper".

It just so happens that I was eating left over pot roast for lunch and it hit me like a roll of "Charmin" and I couldn't help but "squeeze" out a thought or two about jingles and how some lucky person made up a few silly but catchy phrases and made money off it.

"Grrreat!" Now, what do you think of? Tony the Tiger of course. How about " Plop Plop Fizz Fizz"? No, not a really bad turd but "Alka-Seltzer". What's your favorite? Is it "Snap,Crackle,Pop" or the image of the Hawaiian dude getting punched? "Hey, how about some nice Hawaiian Punch?".

There all pretty crazy. Just a few words and we have an image for life in our heads. "How do you spell relief?"  " R O L A I D S"  and then there are some obscure ones from way,way back like this commercial I found on youtube:

That made me start looking at a bunch of others like:

and of course in my mind the most famous of all along with some others:

Well, that's it. I can't take it any more.

WTF People.

I woke up this morning ready to make homemade biscuits and pancakes, I don't like pancakes but everyone else does, eggs over easy and a big old pot of hot steamin' coffee. Got some pepper bacon and thick cut bologna for the meaty part of breakfast. The problem now is I am not as hungry as I was when I woke up. It just makes me sick why the whole "F'ing" world has to be so stupid. Well maybe not the whole world but you get the idea.

I was reading an article about Congresswoman Gifford who was shot. Apparently this guy Jarred shot her in the head. No sane person shoots another like that in public or any other place for matter. Not to mention the other six who died and 12 wounded. The thing that gets my goat is that all the comments I read say it was political. The Left Vs. Right, Republican vs Democrat, good against evil. What a crock of sh-t. The boy was looking for fame, he's been reported as a loon any way.

I think everyone aught to take it for what it really was, an F'ing loony looking to get in the news. WTF, why can't people quite reading sh-t into stuff that ain't there.
He's got his headliner now and you know what? By the end of the day it will all be about Bush or Palin or the tea party and Jarrad will be forgotten and Gifford will be forgotten and we'll be talking about gun laws and racism such things.

Well I say F! the tea party I prefer coffee, F! politicians I prefer, well, not to say what I prefer.

So I leave you with this:

"A stupid man's report of what a clever man says is never accurate because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand.
-- Bertrand Russell"

Take it any way you want, just be nice to your neighbor. Now go cook breakfast!

The Loss Of a Dear Friend

I woke up this morning and the sun didn't seem to shine as bright. Even though I was home with my family I felt something missing. I walked in to the kitchen and started coffee, it was 7am Saturday morning and in about an hour or so my best friend would be calling me to say he was running late but would be there soon for our weekly round of PS3 PGA Tour golf tournament.
The thing is this time my friend Jeff Conner will not be here at all. It seems that on Friday October 8th at about 9:40 something A.M. he had a heart attack in his tractor trailer making a delivery at Dulles Airport. The Police found him in the parking lot slumped over the steering wheel.
Jeff and I had a steady ritual every weekend of getting together to shoot the breeze, throw down a few beverages and play PS3 golf or here lately Wii Bowling. In fact Jeff and I have been doing this on and off for the past seventeen years. Seventeen years, we've watched each other's kids grow up into teenagers and on into adulthood.
Jeff had this strange ability to win things as well. Although I think if you added it up he may have broken even, he always seem to win. I remember I needed $50 one time so he asked me for a dollar, walked into Spencer's Market and came out with a winning $50 scratch ticket. Amazing!
When it came to his wife Kim and kids Brad and Nick you better watch what you say. He was so proud of his two sons and loved his wife dearly.
He would call me as soon as as any thing happened, like when Brad got a baseball scholarship or the first time Nick throw a 90mph fast ball.
Jeff will be missed by so many people but for me he will always be there calling me a cheat if I get a hole in one or an Eagle on a tough par 5 hole when I play PGA Tour Golf. I will also miss his favorite phrase "What the Fuck!" no one could say it quite the way he could.

Love you Jeff and I will miss you. Watch you mouth up there and let God win every now and then.

Drought at Lake Chesdin,Va.

Although it is raining now it hasn't been for many weeks. Our local reservoir in down 186 plus inches which puts us in an emergency water situation. That means no watering of lawns or gardens, washing cars at home or any unnecessary use of water. It's pretty bad right now. I heard one weather man say that it would take sixty days of a nice steady drizzle just to break even and restore our water level back to normal.

My son and took a walk around part of the lake today and I have to say it's worse looking than I thought and not only that but what really got to me was the amount of trash. Beer bottles, cans, old buckets and worst of all the amount of broken bottles right where people swim.
Looking on the bright side is the fact that we did get a good look at the structures that lay beneath the surface.

Logs, tree stumps and man made structure right there so when the water does come back I'll know where to fish. Another thing as well is I got a good look at the couture of the lake. Parts I thought were shallow were actually very deep or shallow with a savvier drop off.
I am posting pictures so you can get an idea what I am talking about.

Oh yea before I forget Mike and I found a new hot spot for lunch right in our own back yard. A place called "Jeff's Place" just down the road in Ettrick. Just a typical locals spot with cold beer and good BBQ or huge hamburgers priced just right.

What in the was I thinking? A feel good story

I woke up this morning feeling good.

I had 15 hours of peaceful sleep.

Now I am wide awake and no clue what to do with my day.

I do have some chores but that doesn't count.

I have all this energy and I am wasting it away on my blog. Isn't that a waste?

Well you know what?

I am out of here and I am going to my mother in laws and cut her grass.

Now I feel better.

Thank You
Brooks

Gotta Love the Grand Kids.

It was a bright and sunny day in Virginia this past Saturday. A great day for a pool party.

It was my grand daughters nineth birthday so what better time than to clean out the pool, spray on suntan oil and party with family and friends. She had her closest friends there and of course us darn adults. Hey, some had to cook the hot dogs and hamburgers.

I have added a slide show so enjoy.

Lost Time

Have you ever been driving on the interstate and realize you just drove five miles and don't remember an inch of it or maybe you are at home watching your favourite TV show at eight o'clock and for just an instant you shut your eyes while the commercial is on and when you open them back up your watching the eleven o'clock news?

I don't know where I am going with this but I was sitting here at my computer staring at the screen trying to think of something to writer and that's what happened. BAM!! just like that ten minutes had gone by.

Now, I'm not talking about mini-seizures or anything like that. No, I am talking about just a plane old "Zoning out" kinda thing. Weird isn't it?

Oh well, I guess it's like reading my blog. We just lost a little time.

Rainy Sunday's

After a crazy day of beer drinking, PGA Tour 10 golf on the PS3 I think a lazy rainy Sunday isn't a bad idea. It gives you an excuse to lay around all day in PJ"s and watch old movies. I may even clean up and organize my photo albums in my computer. Then again maybe not.
No matter what happens today it will not be too strenuous.

Ringing Ears

I am going to make an effort to mantain some writing here no matter what it is.
Last night was a blast at Blue's place. It was Mike Royea's Birthday party and fun was had by all. My ears are ringing today 'cause I was jamn' with the band and going nuts on my harmonica. I tried to stay some what sober and I think I did a good job but like I said my ears are still ringing. I think if I had not been as close to my amp as I was my ears might not be ringing.
So now you know why my ears are ringing.
